Friday Recruitin' Penn State Recruiting Update 4/8

Following the recruiting happenings of 17- and 18-year old players is slightly creepy enough, let alone trying to find adequate pictures of them to post on this weekly segment's front page. So the editorial staff at Linebacker-U.com has decided to make a change. We hope you enjoy. The first of our new editions comes to us from America's hat, Canada. Now, back to your weekly recruiting coverage.

This weekend should be a very good visit weekend, with a lot of highly rated recruits on campus. However, the following weekend is the annual Blue-White Weekend, and many visitors are expected (Scout.com has a good running list ($) for all of the weekends). If I were a betting man, I'd expect 2-3 new commits by Sunday, April 17. Which is nice, as I'll be returning from the Caribbean the day before and will be in need of a pick me up.

Until then, we'll keep hyping the praises of our four current commits and keep watching the recruiting news cycle for our top targets. As always, stay up to date with our 2012 Offer/Commit Sheet.
Trust us, this is actually less NSFW
than photos of young boys in athletic shorts...
and more fun to look at, too.

Recruiting News - Offers, Visits, and Other Information

  • I could dance around the premium info and cryptically hint at who will be on campus this weekend, but Steve Wiltfong at 247Sports did it for free. So check it out.
  • The new Scout.com rankings came out this week. Current Class of 2012 commits Camren Williams (4*), Anthony Stanko (3*), and Brent Wilkerson (3*) appear, while Jesse James has yet to be rated by the recruiting service. Wilkerson is ranked as a DE, was recruited as a TE by PSU, but likely projects on the defensive side. Roughly 40 players in the Top 200 have received offers from PSU, are interested in PSU, or have committed to PSU.
  • Similarly, 247Sports released their 21 initial five-star recruits. Notice the absence of Penn State among the "Recruiting Buzz" blurbs; I wouldn't worry too much about that, though. We're in great shape with a good number of top recruits.
  • 247Sports' JC Shurburtt breaks down the five-star recruits by state. Naturally, Florida and California are tied for the most, but a surprise northeastern state also appears at the top.
  • VA DT Derek Dowrey was on campus again last weekend. He does not yet have a Penn State offer, and with offers out to highly rated DTs elsewhere, Dowrey might be waiting some time before he gets one.
  • Another QB finds himself ($) on PSU's radar, though no quarterbacks have been extended an offer yet this season. Coaches are likely waiting to see what happens after spring ball with the transfer possibilities of Rob Bolden and Kevin Newsome.
  • PA LB Jonathan Hicks will be on campus a couple times over the next couple of weeks, trying to see more of Penn State while hoping his offer arrives. With Camren Williams committed and a couple other high profile LBs high on PSU, Hicks, like Dowrey, might be waiting for awhile.
  • MA WR Canaan Severin had to miss the March 26 Junior Day (attended by fellow Massachusetts players Camren Williams and Armani Reeves), but has plans to visit for Blue-White ($ - info in header).
  • Not much UM/PSU overlap in this week's Wednesday Recruitin' from mGo. PA OL JJ Denman and NY DB Wayne Morgan are the only two mentions to watch (in addition to the already linked Noah Spence piece and a quick update from not-PSU bound Greg Garmon), and the Morgan-PSU relationship has cooled considerably.
Everything Else - Fun Links, Non-2012 Recruits, and Anything Else of Note
  • The quarterback that many Penn State fans love to hate, Anthony Morelli, saw action in his first Arena Football League game last Saturday, as Morelli and the Pittsburgh Power fell to the Tulsa Talons.
  • The good Doctor has been doing the "way too early assessment" thing this offseason, and he recently got to a team that many Penn State fans will recognize.
  • Some good pictures from Penn State Media Day from Scout.com's Harvey Levine
  • Iowa gets on the Class of 2012 board with a legacy lineman.

  2. My knowledge of Ms. Johanssen is limited to the following: 1) She's Canadian, 2) She's smokin' hot (if your woman asks you to sit through "He's Just Not That Into You", do it...trust me), 3) She was married to that guy from "Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place", and 4) She is now romantically involved with Sean "Really? Really?" Penn.
