Hello, Anthony. Welcome to the White House Dog House...
Anthony Fera--you know, the only half-decent punter on Penn State's roster this spring--has apparently been cited for the purchase and/or possession of alcohol. The problem with this development? The kid is only 18 years old--yeah, a minor. Nittany White Out scooped us on this one:
“Anthony Fera was cited on Saturday by Penn State police for purchase/possession of alcohol by a minor according to court documents.Charlie went on to say how this will definitely land Fera in Joe Paterno's infamous Dog House. Although, most including myself, seem to think that this isn't serious enough to prevent Fera from playing in the fall, if not still holding onto the first-team punter job. There's no sense hurting an already wounded punt unit, just to make a point. We'll see. Any way you look at it, this isn't something we needed to hear, especially about a player like this.
The following is what he was specifically cited with:
§ 6308. Purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of liquor or malt or brewed beverages
(a) Offense defined.–A person commits a summary offense if he, being less than 21 years of age, attempts to purchase, purchases, consumes, possesses or knowingly and intentionally transports any liquor or malt or brewed beverages, as defined in section 6310.6 (relating to definitions). For the purposes of this section, it shall not be a defense that the liquor or malt or brewed beverage was consumed in a jurisdiction other than the jurisdiction where the citation for underage drinking was issued.
This citation does not mean Fera actually attempted to purchase alcohol as a minor. It may, but it also may not. This citation encompasses a wide variation of ranging from consumption to merely transporting or possessing alcohol as a minor.”
Update: And how'bout this snippet from the Collegian's report (HT:BSD):
"[Fera] was found drinking outside of his 2102 Nittany Apartments residence, Penn State police said... Police said Fera, 18, was drinking directly from a bottle of Cruzan Mango Rum and was slurring his speech when they found him."Cruzan? Really? Come on, brother.

Kicking a place-held beer can at the police officer standing 60 yards away wasn't such a bright idea, was it?
ReplyDeleteIf he could hit a cop from 60 yards out, then maybe we'll do better on kickoffs and long FGs this year.
ReplyDeleteCruzan Mango Rum? You can tell he's a punter, if that was a lineman it would have been Hennessy or Jack.
