Curtis Drake out with broken leg

You can categorize this one under the "Crap!" file.

Sophomore wide receiver, and projected starter, Curtis Drake has reportedly sustained a serious leg injury during non-contact drills.

FOS($) is reporting that Drake broke his leg, and will be out of action for at least six weeks.

This really sucks, folks. I'll keep up on this story for you, so stay tuned.

  1. *sigh* Just means Graham Zug needs 25 TDs this year.

  2. I'll go in a dozen TDs for Brackett. But who will be our 9th string quarterback?

  3. This is a powerful weapon removed from the PSU arsenal. Drake was used as the multipurpose athletic role in 2009 that D Wheelz used to fulfill in the Spread HD. Who's going to step up? Shawney Kersey, Justin Brown, Brandon Moseby-Felder, Devon Smith, Silas Redd, or... a non-sarting QB. I'm looking at you Robert Bolden! Yeah it's a tough loss but so much young talent ready to step up, I do not think this will be an issue.

  4. If this were Derek Moye or The Zug, I would be concerned. Drake will be missed, but it's not a crushing loss.

  5. Looks like more touches for Devon Smith. Out six weeks? He could possibly be back for the big ten opener. Those stinkin Hawkeyes.

  6. If Penn State is doing well (five wins by mid-season), figure that the coaching staff might want to redshirt him. Let him recover fully for 2011. Next season, Zug will be gone, along with Brackett, so there will be much more need for a guy like Drake to be 100%.

  7. tyler.
I dont think this is a non replaceable player at this time in his career. in the next couple of years he will be a star player. I am kind of with erik thinking bolden could be moved to wr due too the qb situation probably not going his way at this time. moseby felder will be called upon to step up and kersey and brown or more then ready and yes the speed demon smith will see an increase in touches.

  8. I agree we will see a lot of Devon Smith take over the 'slash' role Drake was going to have but he's a bit too small to be an every down receiver. That means one of the other young guys will have to step up. Smith got significant playing time as a true freshman which means the coaching staff must have been impressed with him.

  9. IF a "slash" role for the 2010 season look to someone who can run, catch, & throw. Look to someone who used to be a high school QB and played multiple sports... an all around athlete like Drake and DWheelz...it's not Devon Smith. hmmmm... who could that be??? RB#1!!!
