Jay, Matt, and Derek discuss the loss to Ohio State

Penn State was up 14-3 at halftime, dominating the Buckeyes in every phase of football. But Ohio State won the game 38-14. It was brutal.

Although flights home after such a bad loss tend to be very quiet. It still got me thinking. You know Jay Paterno was thinking about it. You know Matt McGloin was thinking about it. The other players were thinking about it. How would such a post-game conversation transpire?

I'm envisioning it went something like this...

[Scene: Jay, Matt and Derek are all sitting square to each other, the aisle dividing the players from the coach. Matt leans towards Jay across the aisle to begin the discussion. Derek is sitting behind Matt.]

Matt McGloin: Boy, that escalated quickly... I mean, that really got out of hand fast.

Derek Moye: It jumped up a notch.

Matt McGloin: It did, didn't it?

Jay Paterno: Yeah, I got conservative in playcalling, even though we knew Ohio State had momentum.

Matt McGloin: I saw that. Jay killed our gameplan once Ohio State started coming back. Did you ever let me pass on any down but third?

Jay Paterno: Yeah, there were passes, and a man on in scarlet and gray, and I was hoping you wouldn't go and throw the ball right to him, Matt.

Matt McGloin: Jay, I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should find yourself a safehouse or a relative close by. Lay low for a while, because you're probably wanted for murder.

  1. I believe we'll always learn a lesson everytime we step into the horseshoe, doing as well as we was doing in the first 2 quarters I didn't understand the concept of conservative play. we was not up by an "untouchable" score. once OSU got a few good plays in the 3rd quarter that built there confidence up for them to make more and more great plays which took a toll on our defense. sometimes i sit and watch penn state creep and creep up the field inch by inch on a ground game, knowing that somewhere its going to end, there's never enough pass plays, played to throw any defense off. it's either up the gut, left, right or a short screen. friends thats why we'e not gonna win inside the horseshoe.
