Wrestling Wreport: redemption weekend

True freshman Nate Morgan will probably get the call this weekend at 125
After a deflating loss to Iowa, Penn State looks to rebound this weekend taking on Michigan State tonight and Michigan on Sunday. The team is saying they have put the loss in the past but the question on everyone's mind is how well will they rebound? Tonight's dual probably won't give us the answer but Sunday's most definitely will. Michigan State has only 1 ranked wrestler while Michigan has 6. MSU is coming off an upset victory of top-20 Illinois this past weekend but they just don't stack up well against Penn State. Probable matchups after the break.

Thoughts

They team psyche as a whole will be tested especially against Michigan. Will they come out with a chip on their shoulders or will they come out timid? It looks like Pataky is still going to be out with the nagging knee injury so true freshman Nate Morgan will most likely get the call after the coaches burned his redshirt last week.

Andrew Alton has the biggest weekend of anyone on the team. His loss to Montell Marion surfaced serious questions about his stamina after running out of gas in the third. He gets a break tonight against Michigan State but has to face top-ranked Kellen Russell of Michigan for the third time this season. Both times resulted in one-point losses for Andrew. This is a "must prove" type of weekend for Alton but it will be interesting if his stamina has improved at all.

Cameron Wade also gets a tough weekend facing #19 Mike McClure, MSU's only ranked wrestler, and #10 Ben Apland of Michigan. Wade already owns a 3-0 dual victory over Apland in the Virginia Duals but it was too close for comfort. The coaches have been trying to get Wade to be more aggressive and use the skill he has on his feet but in some matches he seems to go into an offensive shell. Almost as if he's too afraid to shoot and take a chance. He's often relied too heavily on his riding ability.

Predictions

I think Penn State bounces back tonight and puts the Iowa dual behind them, if the two duals were switched I would be concerned but the Lions have too much firepower for MSU. Michigan won't be easy but I think the guys respond and win by more than the 24-12 margin last time they wrestled the Wolverines
