Goodbye struggle bus, hello bandwagon: Lady Lions knock off ranked Spartans

The Lady Lions picked up right where they left off following Thursday's comeback win over Iowa, today upsetting No. 20/23 Michigan State in the Bryce-Jordan Center by a score of 68-60. Penn State held the Spartans to ZERO field goals over the final 8:12.

I asked last week if the Lady Lions are finally turning the corner to success under coach Coquese Washington. From stymieing Indiana's comeback bid, to the Lady Lion's own come-from-behind gem in Iowa City; Penn State has shown it has what it takes to win close, even against big teams like the Spartans.

This team looks like the real deal. Could they lose a few more and miss out on the NCAAs? Possibly. It's almost certain that the Lady Lions will drop a few more games before the end of February. But if this team can play like it did today, particularly down the stretch against Michigan State, there might be enough good wins on its resume for a trip to the dance.

The Lady Lions travel to Madison this Thursday to face Wisconsin. The Badgers are riding their own win streak, at four victories in a row. With Penn State owning a half-game lead over Wisconsin in the Big Ten standings, Thursday's matchup will be for sole possession of second place in the conference.

The struggle bus is clearing out. Tickets for the band wagon are going fast.
