Senior safety Cedric Jeffries won't return (updated)

Cedric Jeffries (7) has chosen to forgo his fifth season of eligibility with the Nittany Lions, and graduate on schedule in May.

Penn State safety Cedric Jeffries won't be returning for the 2010 football season. The redshirt senior is on schedule to graduate in May.

Prior to last season, Jeffries was in a heated battle with Andrew Dailey and Nick Sukay for the hero spot, eventually settling for No. 3 at the position.

He also came close to capturing a bigger role during the 2008 preseason, when he and Drew Astorino were bucking for the backup safety spot behind Anthony Scirrotto.

Jeffries logged 32 career tackles, with an individual season high of 20 stops in 2008.

[update] As one of our readers noted, this also frees up yet another scholarship for the 2011 recruiting class. Following the Blue-White Game, I'll have a more definite count on the scholarships available. Recruiting is a fluid thing, so even waiting until spring is over isn't all that concrete.
