Paul Jones to redshirt 2010 season

At least there is something certain coming out of Penn State's 2010 quarterback derby. Mark Brennan at FOS is reporting ($) (Here is a free version of the story by Frank Bodani at the YDR) tonight that true frosh Paul Jones will redshirt this season.

This isn't surprising, but I wouldn't say I was expecting it to come out at this time. Jones wowed everyone in the Blue-White Game, but most realized that you can't judge too much from that scrimmage against the second and third team defenses. This leaves Kevin Newsome, Matt McGloin and true freshman Robert Bolden, who's been on campus all of three weeks.

I guess this is a nice problem to have, figuring out which top-10 quarterback should get the job.

  1. Bolden will start...

  2. Smart move making the decision to redshirt someone this early! Makes the job of picking the starter a lot easier - especially if Bolden is a serious contender. Why use up all the ranked QB's elgibility in the same time period? Puts them in a good QB position and will allow them to give Newsome and Bolden more reps.

  3. I'm really trying to hold my tongue on this year's quarterback race. Everyone under the sun is saying that Bolden will get the job.... everyone except the actual men who make that decision. I just hope whoever gets it does well.

  4. Lovin it. And we got some great Michigan recruits on the way if Bolden is the "face"

  5. Bolden MUST be impressing someone because Jones had a leg up on him and he's the one redshirted.
