Rob Bolden is Seeking a Transfer:
This Story Lacks Moxie

Just when Penn State fans couldn't imagine a shittier start to 2011, this bombshell arrives in timely fashion (via Lions247.com):
A day after Penn State's loss to Florida in the Outback Bowl, the father of true freshman Rob Bolden told Lions247.com that his son will seek a transfer from the school.

It's true, he's looking to leave Penn State,"said Robert Bolden, Sr. on Sunday afternoon. "He's notified the coaches, that's as far as it's gone so far. We're waiting on the next step now...."

"They're not looking for him to leave, they don't want him to leave, but he no longer wants to play at Penn State. He's not happy at Penn State currently. If it was up to me, he definitely [would leave], without a doubt. He's definitely made it known that he does not want to be there anymore."
I sure hope Joe Paterno is satisfied with that extra-long leash he gave Matt McGloin, because his unwillingness to bench the struggling quarterback and try something different has once again bit him in the ass. With Kevin Newsome already seeking a transfer himself, PSU is now down to two scholarship QBs once again, much like two years ago. This presumably sets the stage now for redshirt-freshman Paul Jones and his five-star talent to take over the reins next Fall.

Your move, Shane McGregor.

  1. Shhh! Joe said during the Blue-White Game that Shane is a "cocky kid." Which means he could end up beating out Peyton Manning someday.

  2. I also heard McGregor isn't afraid to go deep. Not even when it's Devon Smith in the middle of quadruple coverage.

  3. ESPECIALLY to Devon Smith in quadruple coverage. Plus, how could PSU go wrong with starting Shane? His last name starts with M-C!

  4. Just shows how immature Bolden is, should of made him want to work harder in the off season! He was always moping on the sidelines when he didn't start(unlike Newsome)instead of congratulating his teammates when they did good!Penn State will not let him transfer to a Big 10 school or any team on their schedule while he has eligibility left.get rid of the kid, he is all about himself and nothing about the team!! Jones could of transferred out when they red shirted him, but he stuck it out and said he will work hard to be the starter next year( that is a team player).

  5. If he's leaving because of not coming in garbage time (the only time it would make sense to put him in) during a bowl game that was already lost then good riddance.

  6. While I'm not as quick to judge Bolden personally--since I don't know him that way--the bright spot here is that Paul Jones does seem like a really good character guy, in the mold of MRob and KNew. He's always smiling, and you're right, he could have transferred as soon as he was redshirted.

Once this calms down, one of us will have to do a post on the bright side of all this.

  7. Calling Bolden immature for wanting to leave is ridiculous. There is no reason for him to stick around if he is not going to get a fair shot to play. He has to do what is best for him. Wherever he goes he will have to compete for playing time and prove he deserves to be out on the field.

  8. Alex, what has not been fair about his shot to play at PSU?

  9. Bolden didn't get a shot to relieve McGloin, when McGloin was sucking worse than Bolden ever did. While I'm not thrilled that Bolden doesn't want to stick it out and fight for his job, I can totally understand why he's pissed. There was absolutely no reason to why the coaches pulled Bolden for McGloin, but never pulled McGloin for Bolden.

  10. You referring to the bowl game or the season as a whole?

  11. The report seems sketchy to me...this just sounds like a really pissed of father who thinks his son is the greatest thing to ever happen to Penn State and deserves to be on the field no matter what.

  12. What's with these crazy parents? Bolden is an adult and its creepy that his dad is in the media saying these things. So your kid got a year of free college, and use of world class facilities but your mad he didn't play in one game when he should of.

Put it in perspective. There are plenty of guys Bolden's age in Afghanistan right now and I'm sure there parents want them to leave too but they are sticking it out.

  13. PSU was winning in the 4Q and I have never seen a coach pull a QB in the 4Q when they were winning. This is more than just the bowl game, this goes back to Bolden not getting the chance to regain his starting role after losing it to an injury. We've gone from 4 QBs to now two....one being a walk-on. Paul Jones appears to have all of the tools to be a great QB, let's hope he gets a fair shot in the off-season.

  14. You guys need to start leaving your names at least. We can'[t tell who's who.

I wouldn't pick Afghanistan as a comparable situation to what Bolden is going through, but I do get your intent. The problem is that I do fear Paul Jones will not be given a real fair shake this off-season. I hope he does get one, but I'm doubtful.

  15. I agree Mike. What does Afghanistan has to do with football?

  16. It's amazing how this staff continues to flub the roster situation. First Devlin now Bolden. Isn't it amazing how other schools seem to get by without transfers but Paterno State can't? Thanks a lot Joe. Thanks a lot Jay. Because of the Paterno stranglehold the prgoram is screwed for years to come.
