Always for the Glory: Week 2 NFL Update

Poz is hurt again... ugh!

It's not just the current group of Penn Staters that are down in the dumps after a tough weekend. A couple of Penn State's most prominent alums were forced to the sideline after just one week of NFL action. Jared Odrick will miss two weeks with a broken fibula, and Paul Posluszny will miss two to three weeks with a sprained right knee. And probably the worst news came just a few hours ago, that Josh Hull tore his ACL in practice today, and will be lost for the season.

It wasn't all bad though for PSU's most prominent alumni. Here are some highlights from your favorite former Nittany Lions after week one.

Paul Posluszny, LB, Bills: It ended on a low note for the former PSU captain, but Posluszny dominated the division rival Dolphins before getting hurt. He compiled eight total tackles, including sacking Miami quarterback Chad Henne, finally getting revenge for a certain 2005 game that will go unmentioned.

Dan Connor, LB, Panthers: Connor's been battling injury throughout his NFL career, but is now finally healthy, and starting at linebacker for the Panthers. He was a beast in his first start last week, with 13 total tackles, one sack, and three tackles for loss in the 31-18 loss to the New York Giants.


Ed Johnson, DT, Panthers: Sticking with that great 2005 Penn State defense, Ed Johnson made his debut for the Carolina Panthers this past week, after drug related troubles cost him his spot with the Indianapolis Colts. Johnson had two tackles, one quarterback hit, and one tackle for a loss as the Panthers starting defensive tackle.

Tamba Hali, LB, Chiefs: He haunted opposing quarterbacks as a defensive end in Tom Bradley's 4-3 defensive scheme, but is playing outside linebacker in the Chiefs 3-4 set. The move hasn't phased him too much so far in his career, and had another solid performance in week one. He notched 5 total tackles and a half of a sack in the victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Deon Butler, WR, Seahawks: After getting limited action in his rookie season, Butler impressed new head coach Pete Carroll in the off-season. The team released Houshmandzadeh in the summer, giving Butler the opportunity to shine. He only had one catch last week, but it was good for his first NFL touchdown.

Justin King, CB, Rams: King left Happy Valley after his junior year, thinking he was ready for the National Football League. Now his third year in the league, he still isn't good enough to start for one of the league's worst defenses. He tallied two tackles in back-up and special teams duty on Sunday.

Michael Robinson, RB, Seahawks: Rounding out the 2005 team is the man that turned it all around himself, quarterback Michael Robinson. The jack-of-all-trades was cut by the 49ers just a few weeks ago, but was quickly snatched up by the Seahawks. Now a running back and special teamer, Robinson caught two passes for 12 yards in his debut for his new team.

Aaron Maybin, DE, Bills: Maybin was drafted in the first round last season by the Bills, and has not quite lived up to the team's expectations so far. He served as a back-up defensive end in the Bills opener, and recorded one tackle and one quarterback hit in the loss.-

Jared Odrick, DE, Dolphins: He was a defensive tackle here in Happy Valley, but got the start at defensive end in Tony Sporano's 3-4 scheme . Odrick failed to sack the quarterback in the 15-10 victory over the Bills, but did manage a tackle before getting hurt.

Navorro Bowman, LB, 49ers: Following in Justin King's footsteps, Bowman left after just three years at Penn State. He played exclusively on special teams for the 49ers in week one, and recorded one tackle.
